Cameroon faces Russia in friendly match this June
At a press conference earlier this month, Indomitable Lions coach Javier Clemente confirmed that the Cameroon National team the Indomitable Lions will be playing a friendly match against Russia this June.
The match schedule just a few days after the very crucial return lake qualifier match for the African nations Cup against Senegal Teranga Lions will take place on Russian soils on June 7. And is intended to make up for the friendly match that was scheduled against Gabon and was later cancelled without any explanations after Cameroon lost the first lake qualifier match against the Teranga Lions in Dakar.
As explained by Javier Clemente the Lions will leave Cameroon immediately after the match against Senegal in the nations capital Yaounde to France where they will make a brief recess and later to Austria before moving to Russia for the encounter which as explained by the team officials as well as assistant coaches Omam Biyik and Jacque Songo'o will serve as a means of testing players which are not very active at club levels.
The two sides have not had the chance of playing a lot of friendly matches in the past but they have met at several occasions. Notably twice at the World Cup in Italy 1990 and USA 1994. And in both instances, Russia defeated the Lions 4-0 and 6-1 respectively. The match on June 7 therefore promises to be a great challenge for the lions.
